Netflix is producing a lot of stuff so it is pretty much impossible to be up to date with every new show that comes out. In this article we would like to show you some shows that you might have missed but should definitely give a try. Some of them are not in english but please, do not quit on them before you even try. Those shows might really surprise you in a positive way, just like “Dark” did. And in case you did not see that amazing german sci-fi time travel show you really need to do so. And you can treat this show as numer 0 on our list. It already ended so you have 3 amazing seasons to follow.
1. “Unbelievable” (2019)
Plot: “Inspired by real events, a teen reports and eventually recants her reported rape, while two female detectives, states away, investigate evidence that could reveal the truth.”
Reasons to watch: The first episode of this show might be the most gutting episode of television made this year, even more when you realise that it’s based on real raported events. The remaining seven episodes are incredible and you might even say catharic.
2. “When They See Us” (2019)
Plot: “Based on a true story that gripped the country, ‘When They See Us’ will chronicle the notorious case of five teenagers of color, labeled the Central Park Five, who were convicted of a rape they did not commit.”
Reasons to watch: This is one of the best shows released in 2019. When you watch it you just cannot be indifferent to the events. The way that police and judges treated those kids is just gutting. But the show tells a very important story with top-notch acting, so you have to see it. It is only a 5 part event so you will have about five hours filled with emotions.
3. “Atypical” (2017)
Plot: “When a teen on the autism spectrum decides to get a girlfriend, his bid for more independence puts his whole family on a path of self-discovery.”
Reasons to watch: Up till this point there are three seasons released. Short, about 30 minutes episodes are filled with amazing performances of all cast and, above all, a realistic representation of autism, which is pretty unusual on TV. This show offers a mix of comedy with drama and it does it so well. Give it a try and I am pretty sure you will fall in love with this show.
4. “Mindhunter” (2017)
Plot: “In the late 1970s two FBI agents expand criminal science by delving into the psychology of murder and getting uneasily close to all-too-real monsters.”
Reasons to watch: I just can’t comprehand the fact that this show is not super big with huge fanbase. It has everything and more to succeed. David Fincher was a producer and the director and you can really feel his unique style. There are two seasons availiable but sadly, we probably will not get any new ones. But it is still one of the very best Netflix show, with great story and amazing cast – especially the people who played serial killers. Be careful though, once you start it, it will be hard to stop.
5. “To The Lake” (2019)
Plot: “A terrible plague strikes and a group decides to risk their lives. Humanity struggles to survive as they face the end of their civilisation.”
Reasons to watch: This is a Russian show that was supposed to be a one season thing but after its huge popularity across the world, Netflix has picked it up for another run. And that was a great decision. The story is amazing and feels really well placed in our times as we too struggle with a pandemic. The one in the show is much scarrier though as it leaves Russia in shambles and the main group has to escape big cities and go to the lakehouse. Of course, the journey will not be an easy one. Show is super well made with good acting and some irritating characters (but that was probably the point) and some very likeable.
6. “Marianne” (2019)
Plot: “When a famous horror writer goes back to her hometown, she finds out that the evil spirit that plagues her dreams is also there in real life.”
Reasons to watch: This is one of the best horror tv shows that was ever produced, not only by Netflix, but in general. It offers a visceral, darker experience replete with terrific performances and some amazing scares. The show is very compelling, mysterious and super creepy and will keep you on the edge of your seat in front of your TV for the whole time. You should be expecting nightmares after watching.
7. “Unorthodox” (2020)
Plot: “Story of a young ultra-Orthodox Jewish woman who flees her arranged marriage and religious community to start a new life abroad.”
Reasons to watch: This is an outstanding German production that tells a truly amazing story. The show became an international phenomenon but did not seem to get huge fanbase and buzz on the internet. It was the critics that mainly talked about it. This limited series follows an Orthodox Jewis woman who rejects her conservative life in Brooklyn as she flees to Berlin to find her estranged mother and carve a new path for herself. Fantastic story, great acting and one of the best drama shows released this year.
